He is coming back! To HobbitCon 4! Mark Atkin's biggest role is one where audiences are not meant to recognize him. Mark is the scale-double for Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit trilogy, directed by Sir Peter Jackson.

By saying Thorin Oakenshield will be at HobbitCon you may have been confused for a second. It is, however, true because as it is often the case with action movies, there are always two people playing a role. And one of them is the scale double. Mark Atkin is Richard Armitage's scale double as Thorin Oakenshield. To provide a seamless portrayal of the dwarf king, Mark trained with Richard to learn everything from his gait to his mannerisms to his timing.

Before turning to acting and stunt work, Mark Atkin had a career as a Police Officer and Detective. This field of work of course helped a lot when it comes to action filled scenes for movies such as The Hobbit. His other work includes the 2013 New Zealand Opera production of The Flying Dutchman where he played a ghost crew member, a number of short films and TV commercials.

Mark is very actively using social media platforms, so don't miss his Twitter and Facebook to learn more about him and his work!

You wanted to meet him again and he did so as well, that’s why Mark Atkin is coming back to us, to HobbitCon 4.
